The Myth

What if I told you mastering Korean wasn’t that hard. That actually learning the language itself is not nearly as difficult as you may have heard. And that the problem to progressing is an age old one…failure to execute.

The Real Issue

Said another way, “People don’t progress ’cause they don’t do! If you don’t do the work, you won’t reach your goals.”

It’s a bold statement, but think about it.

How many things have you tried, only to give up at some later point in time. Exercising daily, diets, hobbies, etc. Language learning is no exception.

We tend to start out strong, but then fade. And usually fast.

The following is an all too common scenario:
Day 1, study 3 hours.
Day 2, study 2 hours.
Day 3, skip (feeling tired).
Day 4, 10 minutes.
Day 5, skip (too busy).
Day 6, skip……and before you know it, (language) is an afterthought.

Similar patterns for exercising, dieting, and other self improvement plans. There are many reasons why this happens.

Sometimes life just gets in the way. And let’s be honest, sometimes you are to blame. But many of the time it’s not your fault. Many times the system you’re using is ineffective. Or, the system is good, but its instructions aren’t clear.

The results, though, are the same:

No results = loss of interest. And loss of interest = quitting.

Many times, though, you didn’t have a chance. You were doomed from the start. Without a road map to progress, you didn’t really have a chance.

Similiar to what I already do, but I never really wrote a checklist down for myself - so this is really helpful, thanks :D

I think these checklists are a really great addition to the website! Podcasts are a relatively unstructured method of language learning compared to other methods, and these guidelines seem like they would be very beneficial in terms of helping listeners make the most out of the lessons provided here. This is somewhat similar to the method that I use to study from KC101 when I’m feeling quite motivated, but I bet that having these steps synthesized into a checklist will help motivate me to be more consistent in my study.

Hi! Thanks for these tools. I was just wondering where I can find the PDF for the schedule. I found the premium checklist in the Premium column of the lesson contents, but I haven’t been able to locate the schedule. I tried looking all over the learning center, but no luck I’m afraid.

Why are these now with every lesson?

they aren’t customised in anyway. They are totally unrelated to the individual lessons and they are not even different between the different language pod101s.

Even if it was only on 1 lesson, it would still be the single item that clearly took the least time to make. I think the checklist thing is a nice idea, but it is being way over exposed by posting it on every single lesson. To me, it seems like it would fit allot better as a two word link in the reference material system AT MOST. You don’t post a Hangul chart with every single lesson, even though you clearly need to understand Hangul to full get the lesson. I don’t see why this simple checklist is any different.

Having it with every single lesson looks really gimmicky to me, like your just trying to fill up space and make it look like there is more content in each lesson, when really nothing is being added. The lessons have plenty of links to REAL content and I dont see how all these links to the exact same pdf file is helpful.

  5. avatar mrdeus Says:

I see that you added the schedule to the basic content now. Thanks.

If I could wish, these features would also be included in the learning center as a part of the web application, so that you could enter and save the information in your account.

my previous post seems negative and that was not my intention… So I would just like to point out that I think this is a neat idea and that Koreanclass101 is the best site on the internet and is my homepage!

  7. avatar jclemons Says:

Thank you for all the feedback!

While these are the same files on every lesson, we thought it might be more convenient to be able to have the link there so you could click it right away and print to fill out with your lesson.

We heard many people make very similar sheets to organize and schedule their study time, so we wanted to make this available to everyone. Hope it helps! ♪

    Steven,

I think you may be on to something. Actually, when I first read this post, I went to look for these checklists in the reference section, and was confused when I didn’t find them there.

Since there’s no finite space on a webpage to try to fill up, I think there’s no harm in including a link with the lessons. However, wouldn’t it be reasonable to include them with the rest of the reference material as well?

The most important secret of all is to enjoy~~!
Don’t take the target langauge too seriously but take it as a new boy friend/girl friend.
You can’t know him/her right away… You have to take your time getting to know him/her. If you like him/her a lot, get to know him/her one by one or little by little… then, you will get his/her love… (i think..)

Apply this method to learning Korean (new language to you).
Trust me, you will be successful~~^^
    best,

Ganbete! (for Japanese), Zayo! (for Chinese), Go Go! (for English)
