Hyunwoo’s Mind Map on “Snow”
Tuesday, November 20th, 2007Today, in Seoul, we had the first snow of the year!! It started like a little rain, but then the rain got thicker and turned into heavy snow!! I’m sure all of you have different ideas coming to your mind as you hear the word “snow”, but this is what came to my mind when I saw the snow piling up outside my window a few hours ago.

Interesting mindmap… it seems like you really took the idea of “snow” in interesting directions! It’s the same in Canada with traffic: it really gets stopped up during the first snow of the year. You have two kinds of drivers: 1) those who think the wet slush and early accumulation of snow can be ignored, and subsequently getting into an accident. And 2) those who get way too nervous, drive way too slowly, and things still get bottlenecked!
People asked me if the first snow yesterday made me feel homesick. I said it made me feel sad, but not homesick. I hate the snow and the cold, and while Korea gets cold in the winter, apparently it’s not as bad as Canada. The cold and snow is one thing about Canada I can do without! It may have been fun when I was a kid, but…

Here, most people take precautions when they drive on a snowing day, but accidents still happen (probably because everybody wants to go home quick Haha) - the first snow yesterday is now half gone except for some on the top of the cars parked outside, but it made some really long icicles outside my window. All of canada has a lot of snow in the winter, right? I can’t imagine having more than this much snow in the winter.

Well, it depends on the part of Canada. On the West Coast, around Vancouver, there’s not a lot of snow in the winter. All they get are two and a half months where the weather report is the same every day: rainy, cloudy, high of 4 degrees celsius. Not pleasant, but at least it’s not 20 centimeteres of snow!
It snowed again last night, and I can still see snow on the ground, as well as on the mini-mountain outside my window. According to my family in Canada, we’ve gotten more snow than them so far this year.
